Audience Research-Questionnaire Results

The people who filled in my questionnaire were aged between 16-30, the age of my target audience and who i will cater my magazine for. The gender of my audience were slightly more males however, i will be targetting males and females equally in creating my magazine.

These results tell me that my audience don't like rap and r&b music too much and prefer pop and alternative styles of music. Pop and alternative music is the style that is usually featured in my style model, Q, and what has proven to be the most popular for my target audience so i will therefore aim to feature artists and conventions to fit these genres throughout my magazine.

The majority of my target audience said they would prefer a magazine with a consistent colour scheme. I then extended this question with asking my audience why they prefer this and the answers included suggestions such as 'its more recognisable' and 'eye catching', these are features i would obviously like my magazine to have, like my style model Q's, so i will therefore use a consistent colour scheme in my music magazine.

My previous question was then extended further for me to discover what colours my target audience would want to see in my magazine and the three main colours were black, white and red. Coincidently these are the three main colours that my style model, Q is renouned for. After deciding between a combination of black, white and either navy blue or red in my intital ideas these results from my target audience have helped me decide on a colour scheme of red, white and black.

Over half of my target audience chose the name 'Major' as the name they'd like my magazine to be called, after this already being one of my favourites my target audience have clarified that that is what my magazine should be called.
Half of my target audience prefer question and answer format articles and others include new bands and life stories. For my article i will therefore look to create an article in a question and answer format with a feature of my newly created artist being relitavely new to the music industry. By doing this i would hope that it would draw my readers in and excite them about my magazine, as does my style model Q.

My audience had a variety of different ideas on what would make them buy one magazine over the other so i will therefore try and incorporate as many as possible into my magazine, whilst still keeping my style that i am aiming for. Although two of my audience said they'd prefer 'freebies' and 'gifts' i don't think i will include these as i want to keep the sophisticated and classy style that Q magazine has, of which rarely gives out free things. However i am going to leave this thought open to decide at a later date what looks best as my magazine is forming.
This chart shows that my audience would pay mainly between £2-£3 with the others split equally. I would like to set my magazine at a reasonable price as i want it to appear to be a high-end glossy magazine so i think i will aim between £3-£4, also appealing to my target audience.
